The Sato Project runs almost entirely on the passion and dedication of our many wonderful volunteers. Are you interested in joining our team? Here are some of the ways you can help:

  • Foster a Sato:  We are always in need of fosters in the following states: NY, NJ, CT, PA, MD, MA and NH. We are also now looking for fosters in Los Angeles. The Sato Project provides a leash, harness, and crate. We cover any necessary veterinary expenses. For more information visit our Foster a Sato page. We also need fosters in Puerto Rico, but they need to be able to bring the dog to appointments at one of our two vet clinics - Candelero in Humacao or Mi Mascota in Las Piedras - so local foster homes are preferred.

  • Transporting dogs: We are often in need of volunteers to transport our dogs from NJ area airports to their foster homes in NY, NJ and MA.

  • Hold a community fundraiser: Not in the New York area but still want to help? No problem! You can help us rescue more dogs by holding a community fundraiser. Community events such as bake sales, lemonade stands, or house parties can help us raise vital funds and spread the word about our work.

  • Volunteering in Puerto Rico: Due to the nature of dog rescue and the risks involved we do not have a volunteer program in Puerto Rico. We also do not have a physical shelter space that allows visitors, as our dogs are housed in private veterinary clinics.

  • Volunteering for The Spayathon for Puerto Rico: At this time, the only volunteer opportunity we have in Puerto Rico is during our temporary week-long Spayathon clinics. We specifically need Spanish-speaking volunteers. You can learn more about The Spayathon Initiative by clicking here. If you speak Spanish and would like to learn more about how to volunteer at The Spayathon, please email the address listed below.

  • Professional skills: Are you a professional such as a web designer, writer, or photographer who would like to contribute some of your time and effort to our cause? Tell us about your skills and passions and perhaps you can help The Sato Project tell our stories and spread the word about our work.
