Tarka

Tarka took her Freedom Flight on July 5th, 2020. Thank you to all of her Foster From Afar donors for helping us change her life forever.

In early March, our team visited a municipal shelter that was greatly impacted by the recent earthquakes. Our mission was to pull as many dogs scheduled for euthanasia as we could. We had a private flight that was donated to us and had volunteered to fly as many dogs as would fit onto the plane to a shelter partner in Ft. Lauderdale. We had already filled up our van with as many dogs as it could hold, when we spotted little Tarka huddled in the back of her kennel. As we knelt down in front of her, she didn’t budge from her corner and looked up at us with some of saddest eyes we had ever seen. We could see a gentle wag of her tail, but we know that this young sato was too shut down and frightened to ever make it out of that overcrowded shelter alive. No matter what it took, we could not leave her behind.

Shortly after we pulled Tarka and the other dogs from this shelter, the flight to Ft. Lauderdale was cancelled. All of these dogs suddenly had to remain in our care for much longer than expected which caused us to incur many unplanned costs. Thanks to your support, we were able to keep Tarka safe and healthy, allowing her to come out of her shell and become the happy puppy that she deserved to be. After landing on her Freedom Flight, this sweet sato was transported by a volunteer up to her forever family in Rhode Island who couldn’t wait to welcome her. Tarka has since been renamed ‘Beauty’ and now enjoys spending her days playing with her new sato sister, Honey, or snuggling up with her family on the couch.
